Oh. Em. Gee. you guys! Welcome to my first ever book club post! I am so excited to roll out this new part of my blog and share with you guys the books I am reading and loving!
I always used to be a big reader. I’d read a book a week, sometimes more. But somewhere along the way, ahem, law school, I stopped reading as much as I used to, and I hate that! So this new year I decided to make it a goal to get back into reading for enjoyment and not just for work, and I am SO glad I have!
Honestly, to me there is (almost) nothing better than curling up with a cup of hot cocoa and reading a good book so I have decided that every month I am going to share with you all the books I have read that month, give you a snippet and let you know (if and) why you need to read it!
Here are the books that I thoroughly enjoyed in January 2018!
1. Crazy Rich Asians. This was the first book I read in 2018 and holy guacamole! If this isn't the funniest book I have ever read, I don't know what is! It's a juicy, sexy, tongue-in-cheek satiric biography of not just rich, but the crazy rich Singapore high society! I literally couldn't put this down to eat or sleep! But I will say I was a little annoyed by the ending - it just left me, er, waiting? Like is there a sequel to this that I do not know about?! Which I should probably look up and find out because I. NEED. MORE. Like I need to know (SPOILER ALERT) did Astrid and Michael get back together? Did Elenor get the stick out of her a$$ and accept Rachel, especially now that we know she was never fully accepted by Nick's grandma! I mean I have so many questions! Which makes me that much more excited for the movie!! 2. Doubt. I know, I know. I can be so basic and yes one of the books I picked up had to be a legal based thriller. But this book is SO good! Its about a young new lawyer who lands her first big time law firm job and excited to put her dark past behind. But of course, her first case only forces her to have to
3. How to Murder Your Life. This book should heed with the following warning label - 'This book is as addiciting as the drugs Cat Marnell used to f**k up her life!' But no, very honestly, this book was intoxicating, cringe worthy, fascinating, hilarious, heartbreaking, reptitive (but I guess all addictions are) and brutally honest. Cat discusses how she murdered her life but even in all its sobering truths she truly cast a light onto something that people tend to shy away from discussing - drugs. And this self awareness that she so openly discussed could actually help people understand why the eff you should stay away from drugs. But if that isn't enough, just know you're in for a real ride with this one!
If you're a book lover or just happened to read a book you love and recommend please comment it below! Would love to know what ya'll are reading and I definitely need some recommendations too!
